From Coach Cunningham:
This past Friday, the varsity tennis team traveled to Georgetown to compete against strong 5A and 6A competition from the Austin area. Luke Suchomel and Nick Dietrich represented us in the boys singles division and were tested by tough opponents from Dripping Springs, Austin High, Round Rock, and Belton. While they ultimately fell short, both athletes pushed themselves and improved throughout the day, with most matches coming down to very tight scores.
Alex Burns and Callen Smith competed in the mixed doubles division and had an impressive showing. They opened the tournament with an 8–6 win over Dripping Springs, followed by a victory against Austin Anderson to advance to the championship match. They fell just short in the finals (5–7, 4–6), earning second place in their first tournament of the season. This result is especially impressive considering the high level of competition they faced and that they were unable to practice all week due to the ice storm.
I am proud of all four athletes and excited to see what the rest of the season has in store.
