Bulldog Soccer Update - Florence 2/20

From Coach Boorman:

Your Bulldog Soccer teams hosted the Florence Buffaloes on February 20th.

JV dominated the game from start to finish. Ivan Frias dropped back from striker into the midfield to help deliver balls to the wingers. Juan Miranda had a great game in midfield even though his natural position is out defense. It was a great move as his possession helped control the center of the field.Goals were scored by Sebastian Mendez, Isaac Saldivar (PK), Hector Vega, and Ivan Frias. The final score was 4-1.

Varsity entered this game needing the win to secure playoffs for the second year in a row. Florence came into the game confident and much improved after a win over Jarrell on Friday night. Burnet started the game on the front foot, as Miguel Valdez and Hector Arredondo linked up with Genesis Ceron on the right side of the field. Cleto Leon and Miguel were knocking on the door multiple times, but could kept seeing their chances missed. All seemed to be well in hand when a perfect cross and deflection crept into our net and quickly found the Dawgs down 1 to the Buffs. This propelled the confidence of the Buffaloes and they continued to get chances, but due to valiant efforts by Derik Colis and Rigo Valdez their efforts produced no prize.

Half time adjustments were made, and this turned the game on its head. Burnet was in command in the second half. After a barrage of shots and crosses, it finally took a free kick near the corner flag from Hector Arredondo to Genesis Ceron's head to tie the game. Burnet kept going with the same recipe and with 10 minutes left a shot by Marco Campos pinballed in the box and ended up finding freshmen Ricardo Flores who took it upon himself to win the game as he used his non-dominant left foot to curl it in the goal. The Bulldogs repelled Florence's last efforts to win the game and solidify their spot in the playoffs with 3 games remaining in district play.

The Dawgs travel to Jarrell on Friday to play the Cougars. A win there would wrap up 3rd place in district. We appreciate your support. It was a fun atmosphere tonight with fans cheering us on. Thanks to the Lady Dawgs and staff members who were there last night to cheer on the boys.
