In the first week of playoffs, Burnet Esports saw 4 players compete hard during their Round of 32 (Last 32) matches.
Xzavier Benjamin (5th ranked BHS Varsity #1, 8-0 record) faced the 28th ranked Sherman HS team, Sherman Leaper. After losing the 1st round, his opponent’s controller failed at the start of the 2nd round. Both agreed to reset the match and start over at 0-0. After the reset, Xzavier went on a 2-straight winning streak to win the round 2-0. With the win, his record is 9-0 as he faces the 21st ranked Sherman HS team, Sherman Puncher (8-1 record) in his Round of 16 (Last 16) match.
Ray Reid (26th ranked BHS Varsity #2, 7-1 record) faced the 7th ranked Rock Hill HS team, Smash Solo: Garrett F. After fighting hard, he lost two consecutive, tough rounds. With the loss, his season has come to an end with a 7-2 record.
Cody Murders (25th ranked BHS Varsity #5, 7-1 record) faced the 8th ranked Medina Valley HS team, MVHS N.W Smash Solo. He fought hard and was able to overcome his higher ranked opponent in 2 straight rounds to secure the win. His record is 8-1 as he faces the 9th ranked I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA team, Panther – Ultimate_Gab (8-0 record) in his Round of 16 (Last 16) match.
Murray Urofsky (19th ranked BHS Varsity #6, 7-1 record) faced the 14th ranked Martin HS (Arlington, TX) team, Martin Warriors E-Sports (SSBU 2) (7-1 record). He played hard through 2 tough rounds, but came up short in both, dropping the match 0-2. He finishes the season with a 7-2 record.
The Round of 16 (Last 16) matches will be competed on April 28th at 4:45 PM in BHS C104. The bracket for the Super Smash Bros Ultimate Solos playoffs is viewable on the Burnet Esports Smash Bros Solo Bracket page (https://bhs.burnetcisd.net/apps/pages/Sp23_SSBU_Solo_Bracket). I know both players have their eyes on making it into the top 8 teams and be able to go on and compete at the Vanta Esports League Championship on May 7th in Arlington, Texas.
We look forward to cheering on our final two players that are still in the playoffs as they aim for the state championship.
Go Bulldogs!
