Boys Soccer vs. Lago Vista 3/3

Bulldog Nation:

The boys soccer team took on the Vikings at Lago Vista on Friday 3/3. This was an important match as it decided 3rd place in district.

Lago celebrated their senior night and were absolutely ready to play from the opening whistle. Lago put in a goal after 3 minutes, and it was clear that this was going to be a track meet and a slug fest from the beginning. They put in another about 5 minutes later, and it was looking bleak. Victor Aviles pushed up the field and it took 3 Vikings to slow him down. As we got the ball on that side for a little, Hector Arredondo almost converted a free kick from 35 yards out that was deflected out for a corner. Hector took the ball and put a perfect cross in for an own goal by the Vikings. The Vikings scored on another 2 counter attacks in the next 10 minutes. The Dawgs fought back though and after a free kick bounced around at the top of the box, Jahir Benitez finished a nice lob over the keeper to the back corner for the second goal. 4 minutes before the half Anthony Perez threw into Bruno Hernandez for a header goal to take us to half time 4-3.

The second half did not go our way. We were a few players short, and ran out of gas. The final score ended 8-3 as the Vikings continued to be physical and kick long balls to their star forward who finished with 5 goals on the night. It was a disappointing loss, and pretty much seals our fate of playing defending State Champion Boerne in the first round of the playoffs.

We play Marble Falls for our final home game this Friday, 3/10. This is senior night. Please come out and root these boys on. They have worked so hard during their high school careers. Fortunately, this will not be our last game, as we head to playoffs after spring break.

Information will be sent out soon for playoff shirts.

Thanks,
