Boys Soccer vs. Austin Achieve and Florence

From Coach Boorman

Bulldog Nation:

Sorry for the lack of communication lately. February has definitely been a busy month around the district.
Your Burnet Boys Soccer Team traveled to Austin Achieve on Friday 2/17. The JV team played hard, but in the end were not able to withstand the attack of Austin Achieve. Aiden Morrison made 15 great saves in the game. Luis Sanchez played like a warrior in defense. Dwight Lopez played a strong game winning the ball back from the Polar Bears, but just couldn't find players open to pass to. The game ended 5-0.

The Varsity team went into the game with a defensive mindset. We knew that they were a good side so we tried to play a counter attack game. The first half was a battle releasing no goals in the run of play. Instead the Polar Bears were only given one goal by a corner kick, and with 30 seconds left in the half the referee awarded a PK that was converted. The boys gave their full effort. I am extremely proud of how hard the boys worked in this game. In the second half we tried a more conventional approach trying to push forward and score goals. Austin Achieve sniffed this out very quickly and began attacking the goal in numbers. The score ended 8-0.

The Boys also traveled with the girls to Florence on Tuesday 2/21. The JV boys were out for revenge after losing the first meeting in heartbreaking fashion. Bruce Gonzales started the attacks with his speed from the right wing. Tres Maltos played some good one time touches into the box. Dwight Lopez put shot after shot in and eventually the Dawgs were able to capitalize. Dwight ended up netting 2 goals with linkup play from Josvanny Ramirez and Eliel Silva. Florence got one back off of a defensive mistake. Just when it seemed the fate would be the same as the last game Aiden Morrison came up big with saves. The JV won their first district game 2-1.

The Varsity boys started the game confidently and had a big wind to help propel the attack. The boys must have been a little hesitant to shoot as they seemed to be waiting for the perfect opportunity. However, they were dominant in their possession. Jahir Benitez controlled possession in the midfield and found Hector Arredondo often. Hector dished the ball to cousins Cleto Leon, and Lisandro Olvera who fed the ball into the box. Victor Aviles was moved up to wing to put more pressure on, and this worked like a charm. Victor netted a goal back post. to start the scoring. Lisandro scored off of a brilliant corner kick set piece from Hector, and Eric Hernandez shot a cracker of a goal off a good cross by Cleto. Florence did make one goal to get closer, but the boys won the night 3-1. Victor Aviles was definitely the man of the match.

The boys take on Jarrell tomorrow at home. We would love to have everyone's support. The girls play too so you will see lots of action. A win against Jarrell would guarantee a playoff spot. Thanks for your support!
Go Dawgs!
