BHS Boys Soccer vs. Jarrell 2/24

The HS Boys took on Jarrell at home on 2/24. The Dawgs swept Jarrell in all games. The varsity win was huge as this solidified a playoff berth. After spring break the boys will compete in the first playoff game in Burnet Boys soccer history. Congratulations to them and their hard work for accomplishing this goal they set at the beginning of the season.

The JV Boys were hungry after beating Florence on Tuesday. The first 10 minutes of the game the Dawgs were evaluating the competition, but seemed to be finding open space and passing well. Julius Nava played a great ball down the right wing to Bruce Gonzalez who put in a great cross into Josvanny Ramirez for the first goal of the game. Dwight followed up a shot by Blake Feldt to put the Dawgs up 2-0 after the 19th minute. Leif Henry scored his first goal of the season in the 28th minute off a corner kick. The boys were against the wind in the second half and really struggled to find scoring opportunities. However, an intercepted pass at the right time by Dwight Lopez found Isaias Zarate for the 4th goal of the game. Aiden Morris maintained a clean sheet with only 3 saves needed. It was truly a dominant performance.

The Varsity team had one of their best showings of the year. They sliced up Jarrell from the opening kick-off. Jahir Benitez scored in the first minute of the game from a cross by Miguel Valdez. He followed up 4 minutes later with his second goal from an assist by Miguel. This really was a trend and Jahir headed in the third goal 5 minutes later from a cross by Miguel to complete his hat trick. The Bulldogs went in at half time up 3, but it was clear they wanted more. Hector Arredondo broke up Jarrell's increased defense in the 2nd half with the best looking goal of the year soaring in from 25 yards out into the upper corner. Jahir scored again to net 4 goals as Victor Aviles fed the ball to him. The game finished 5-1.

The boys play a friendly against Florence this Tuesday. The big event of the week will be taking on Lago Vista. The winner will take 3rd in district and will avoid playing defending State Champions, the Boerne Greyhounds. There is a lot at stake.
