Burnet Tennis Results from Llano tournament!

On Wednesday, our varsity tennis team traveled to Llano for the first tournament of the season. Overall, the Bulldogs competed well against some good competition. Several of our athletes got season opening wins, only to face eventual tournament champions in the middle rounds of the tournament. The luck of the draw doesn’t always go your way in a tennis tournament.

The freshmen pair of Kinzy Davidson and Blake Feldt each reached the consolation finals of their respective draws–girls and boys singles. Despite playing competitive matches, neither could quite get over the hump. The team of Tatum Salinas and Aly Van Zandt shook off some minimal matchplay rust and cruised to a 1st place finish in the girls doubles draw!

On Thursday, several Bulldogs took part in the JV portion of the Llano tournament. On a day that started in very cold conditions, we got some early wins. Freshman Alex Burns narrowly missed making the semifinals in the main girls singles draw after having an early lead in her quarterfinal match. The girls doubles team of Baileigh Hopkins and Lynzie Wilkes lost in the semifinals of the consolation bracket in a tough match. Finishing up the day, freshman Luke Suchomel took home the consolation championship in a great come from behind win in the final!

These early tournaments are all about finding pairings that work and seeing areas for growth as a team and individuals. As coaches, we were proud of the level of competition of our athletes and are ready to get some work done to be ready for tournaments in Copperas Cove and Robinson next week!
