Your Burnet Bulldog Boys Soccer team faced off for a scrimmage against the Canyon Lake Hawks.
Our JV played fantastic, and won the game 3-1. Cleto Leon scored 2 goals in 3 minutes during the first half. Both goals assisted by Dwight Lopez. Orlando Hernandez played outstanding in goal and stopped some real opportunities for the Hawks. Luis Sanchez led the team as captain from Center Defense and was pitching a shutout through the first half. A deflection from a free kick bounced just right to the Hawk striker to allow them to get their first goal. Aiden Morris played keeper in the second half and stopped a penalty kick that would have tied the game. A free kick was awarded on the other end of the field for us shortly after and Cleto scored his hat trick from 22 yards out on a screamer of a shot.
Varsity played a heck of a game to come up short on a 3-1 loss. Hector Arredondo and Miguel Valdez had numerous chances to score in the first half. The ball was screaming back and forth and Adrian Rojas came up big in goal. Canyon Lake finally used their best strength (their height) and got a goal off a headed corner right at the end of the first half. A few injuries occurred, leaving us a little short handed, and heroic efforts by the defense were thwarted and fell the wrong way. This led to Canyon Lake scoring 2 goals in 5 minutes during the first 10 minutes of the second half. The boys fought hard and with a few defensive adjustments Canyon Lake did not have any more real scoring opportunities for the rest of the game. In the 50th minute of the game, Jahir Benitez made a masterful run off a throw in and found Bruno Hernandez on an open run with the keeper. Bruno flushed it to make the score 3-1. This was a very promising start for our boys from a tough opponent.
We play the Wimberley Texans on Tuesday, 12/13 at 5pm and 7pm at home. Come out and support your Bulldog soccer team while the weather is so accommodating. The boys would love to see you. We are playing some quality soccer.
