Principles of Information Technology

Welcome to Principles of Information Technology

I'm excited to have you in my class this year.  In Principles of Information Technology, we will develop computer literacy skills to adapt to emerging technologies used in the global marketplace. We'll implement personal and interpersonal skills to prepare for a rapidly evolving workplace environment, and enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the information technology environment.

I know that sounds like a lot, but we will have a lot of fun.  While we will learn to create documents using word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software which you likely are already familiar with having utilized these tools in previous classes, we'll also look at database technology, computer hardware and software, the various operating systems, computer networking, looking into the career options available in information technology and computer science, and computer ethics and legal issues.  We'll wrap up the year learning the basics in building websites and an introduction to computer programming.

It is my desire that you'll leave this class when a better appreciation for what computers are able to do and a passion for computer science that will lead to a career in STEM.
