Teacher-LIfe Skills BHS
Welcome to Burnet High School’s Life Skills class!
My name is Johnnie DeLeon and I’m excited to be BHS’s 2025-26 Life Skills teacher. With over 30 years of experience as a professional educator, I remain as passionate as ever about helping young people develop skills that will help them succeed in school—and in life.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and went on to complete my Master’s degree at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege of teaching elementary and secondary school students and serving as both an elementary and secondary administrator. These diverse roles have deepened my understanding of student development at every stage and shaped how I approach education as a professional.
This year in Life Skills, your child will learn essential skills like goal-setting, time and money management, communication, decision-making, and other areas addressed in IEP’s. My classroom is designed to be a supportive, inclusive space where students can build confidence, practice independence, and grow both academically and personally.
Outside of the classroom, I’m a proud parent and grandparent. I have one married adult son, one grandson in middle school and one in elementary school. As a family, we enjoy sports (football, basketball, swimming, hunting, etc.), camping, board games, reading books, cooking, traveling, and really, life in general. I am currently training to participate in a Mammoth Marathon in February with some of my friends from middle and high school.
Please reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or just to check in. I believe that strong communication with families is key to student success, and I’m here to support both you and your child throughout the year.
Thank you for sharing your child with me. I’m looking forward to a meaningful and successful year together.
