From Coach Hairston:
This past Friday, our Boys and Girls' XC teams traveled to Cedar Park for their first cross country meet of the season to compete in the Battle for Wilco Cross Country Meet.
I was extremely pleased with how our athletes went out and competed. The level of competition was high. The majority of the schools in attendance were large 5A and 6A schools. We were one of three smaller schools represented at the meet. Being able to come out and experience a high level of competition early on and compete like we did was beneficial for our runners. The relay format allowed us to experience a little different meet format than usual, but it also allowed us to get valuable first-meet experience for the 2025 season.
Team Performances:
On the varsity boys side we placed 25th, 26th, 41st, & 54th out of 64 relay teams.
The Varsity girls placed 25th, 44th, & 47th out of 52 relay teams.
Our JV girls finished with a 28th, 34th, and 44th place finishes out of 51 relay teams.
JV Boys finished 12th, 30th, and 40th place out of 42 relay teams.
Standout performances for the Meet:
On the Varsity Girls’ side, both Josie McDavid (12th-grade) and Brookly Flores (9th-grade) ran PR’s, boasting times of 14:24 and 14:56, respectively.
Asah Roy had a 10-second improvement over last year's performance and ran our fastest girls’ overall time with a 12:26.
The JV Girls’ competed well as a team with a top performance by freshman, Brekyn Langley, who ran a time of 15:12.
Our Varsity Boys ran with great continuity. Each of them finished with very close individual race times. Adan Carreon was our top runner with a time of 11:05. As a team, they were only seven seconds behind the first-place Salado team!
The JV Boys’ Team competed well, with standout performances from Russell Ramirez and Matthew Resendez as a relay team. They finished 12th out of 42 teams. Ramirez boasted the second fastest time out of all the JV Boy runners with a time of 11:45.
Way to go, Dust Dogs!!!
