From Mr. Walzel:
The UIL Academic coaches have chosen Katie Bronaugh as our outstanding student.
Katie has been competing in UIL Spelling for 3 years. She has improved her scores each year, medaling in invitational meets and also our district meets. She is a 2 time gold medal team winner, a gold medal team winner at the Region 3 Academic championship and a state qualifier, placing 11th last year in all of class 4A. Katie and her teammates will compete in two weeks at the district 24-4A UIL Academic meet in hopes of winning 3 straight championships, and continue to the regional and state meet in May for a shot at a state championship.
Katie will graduate in a few months, she has already begun talking to the younger students about making sure that the new spellers next year get dialed in early and continue to carry on the tradition in UIL Spelling. We will miss her leadership, but want to encourage and support her as she moves forward with her plans of attending college at UT Tyler and continuing her education in the field of forensic psychology.
