Bulldog Soccer Update - 1st Half of District

From Coach Boorman:

Your Burnet Bulldogs are finished with the first half of district play.  Here is a recap of the last 2 games.

We hosted the Lago Vista Vikings on Friday 2/7.  The JV Dawgs got their 1st win of the season as Isaac Vega Palacios scored the only goal of the game.  The shut out went to a split of Austin Miller and Aiden Morris in goal.

Varsity had a dominating performance as 5 goals were scored by 5 different players. Cleto Leon opened up scoring following up a free kick from Dwight Lopez. Genesis Ceron followed up a cross from Miguel Valdez. Alvaro Leon headed home a free kick from Hector Arredondo. Hector took on 3 men to finish a pass from Genesis Ceron. Finally, Miguel Valdez finished a chip over the goal keeper from a through ball by Marco Campos.

The Man of the Match was Cleto Leon

The Dawgs traveled to Nelson Field to take on the LBJ Jaguars.

The JV Dawgs once again found themselves playing a very talented East Austin JV squad.  Despite working hard the Dawgs conceded 6 goals.  Many great saves were made by Austin Miller and Aiden Morris in goal. The Dawgs got their goal when Jose Garcia converted a penalty kick in the closing minutes.

Varsity started strong with Genesis Ceron following up a strong free kick from distance from Marco Campos. However, after this LBJ started their high press and got one back on a well timed cross. The formation of LBJ continued to confound us as they continued to find a man open each time. We finally conceded to their press by giving up a foul in the box.  They converted their PK.  The Dawgs were upset at halftime to be down and began to fight back, but LBJ changed their formation again to park the bus. We were awarded a PK for a hand ball in the box, but failed to convert our attempt.  With a strong defensive effort LBJ was able to hold on the victory.

This was an unexpected setback to what has been a stellar season.  The first half of district has the Bulldogs in 3rd place in good standing for a playoff berth.
