BHS Boys Cross Country Competes at STATE!

From Coach Kristi Jones:

This morning the Burnet Boys Cross country team competed at the UIL State championships for the first time in 22 years. We cannot express how proud we are of these young men, they ran with heart, for each other and, for this community.

The boys end the season with a 7th-place team finish out of 218 schools in the 4A division!

I would like to take a moment to recognize the 11 young men who make up the Burnet CC team.

Sr. Victor Aviles made his third appearance at the State meet. He is our leader and has inspired a group of young men to believe in themselves.

Sr. Isaias Zarate, made his 2nd appearance at the State meet, is relentless & has moved mountains to be the runner he is today.

The rest of the boys experienced the State competition for the first time!

Sr. Gustavo Vega, the one who always executes the race plan, is always striving to get better and has maintained a spot in our top 4 all season!

Sr. Miguel Valdez stepped back onto the course for one more race and ran his best time of the season, he is always a team player regardless of his role!

Jr. Josvanny Ramirez, is a part of the foundation of the program, had a setback halfway through the season but always showed up for his boys and helped push the pack.

So. Austin Moorehis first year to ever run CC, his work ethic is unreal, he is the first to help wherever he is needed, and he has maintained a spot in the top 7!

So. Hector Vega, a selfless teammate, played a huge part in qualifying for the State meet & stepped into an alternate role to honor a teammate's last chance to race. We love this even more than getting to see him race!!

So. Adan Carreon, first year competing in HS CC he made our older guys work to keep their spots, he does his job daily with no questions asked!

So. Hays Bennett, helped create the foundation of this program, he showed the younger runners what it means to stick with it even on the hard days.

Fr. Isaac Vega, consistently progressed throughout the season, ending with his best time yet & as our 3rd runner of the day!

Fr. Clark Yanez, he is just getting started & is learning what it takes to compete at a higher level, he was a part of our top 5 for the majority of the season!
