Congratulations Devin Petterson, Rotary Student of the Month!

From Mrs. Drake, Interact Sponsor:

Devin Petterson goes above and beyond to show “Service Above Self”.  As the President of the Interact Club, he has worked ferociously and conscientiously to create a sense of community wanting to help those in need.

His year started in July when he attended RYLA, an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where he developed skills as a leader while having fun and making connections.

Upon his return, he met with Bill Drake and the other Interact officers for a retreat where they worked together to develop a year of community and service with the members of the Interact Club.

The Club started off with a bang at the Rotary Club Scholarship Night for Kids where Devin led a group of Interact volunteers who helped guide the attendees where to park their cars and gave them safe rides to the venue.

Devin moved on to organizing the BHS Trunk-or-Treat creating a safe and fun way to celebrate Halloween.  This year, nineteen other student organizations joined us to pass out candy, non edible gifts, and line dancing!  At Christmas the Club wanted to honor every BHS employee with a Christmas Card personally designed and signed by each member with a bag of hot chocolate and assorted chocolates.  On the Donald Fawcett Community Service Day, he helped organize a group of Interact Club members who volunteered with the Hill Country chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build 20 new beds (with bedding) for young people in the Burnet area.  This was such a fun and exhilarating event.

Devin has been a wonderfully organized leader who makes sure the needs of the club, Burnet High School faculty, staff, students, and individuals are met. This is in addition to his countless hours volunteering with HOSA, Yearbook, Spirit, Pride, & Honor,  and being the Co-MC of the BHS Pep Rallies.  He hopes to continue serving the community he is in by being involved and prioritizing Service Above Self.

Devin will be attending The University of Texas at Austin where he will pursue a degree in radio, TV and film.
