From Coach Boorman:
Bulldog Nation: Your Bulldog Soccer teams started district this week.
On Tuesday, January 23 we traveled to Austin Achieve. JV played well, but were outmatched offensively. Sebastian Mendez continued his goal streak as he put one in. Roberto Montoya had a good game in goal making many key saves. The game ended 4-1.
Austin Achieve made it the furthest in the playoffs than any other team in district. Last year’s match was a blowout ending 8-0. Our team was up for the challenge defensively this year. Lisandro Olvera, Derik Colis, Rigo Valdez, and Dwight Lopez manned the back four and played amazing. They sacrificed their bodies on numerous occasions blocking shots. Damian Ibanez also made great saves in goal. The score went into the half 2-0. The second half saw the Bulldogs start to adjust to the speed of the game, and we started to put pressure on their stellar attackers. Achieve started to look rattled. With the exception of one ball that fell the right way, the Bulldogs had an almost perfect 2nd half against a top team. The game ended 3-0, but was a vast improvement since last year, and with goal differential we stole points away from the other teams in district.
On Friday, January 26 we traveled to Florence to take on the Buffalos. This was a dominant performance that made a statement to the rest of the district.
JV scored early as Sebastian Mendez kept scoring and improving each game. Florence almost never saw our side of the field. After a second goal by Sebastian Mendez, Elkin Pineda made a great shot from the top of the 18 to end the game 3-0.
Varsity picked up right where JV left off. Genesis Ceron scored 3 goals with Marco Campos assisting 2 and Lisandro Olvera assisting the other. Marco Campos scored from 40 yards out. Dwight Lopez also put one in from distance. Eric Huerta also netted a shot from outside the box. The game ended 6-1 and is the most dominant performance we have had to date.
We take on Jarrell on Tuesday, January 30 and then are off on Friday, February 2.
