Congratulations January Students of the Month, Victoria Canales and Eileen Crist!

From Mrs. Campbell, Art Teacher:

Victoria Canales is a 3rd year art student that I chose for Fine Art student of the month. She shows Burnet High school spirit, pride and honor in all of her actions and accomplishments. She is proactive in her studies and knows to reach out when she has difficulties. She plans ahead with the end in mind and is always on top of her class work. Victoria is currently taking four AP classes and two dual credit classes. She is in my AP 3D art class and will be competing in the Visual Arts Scholastic Event in February. Victoria also devotes her time to volunteering for Academy 4 through which she mentors fourth graders at Bertram Elementary School, in addition to being a member of the National Honor Society.
After high school Victoria plans to attend college and has been accepted to Baylor University, Tarleton State University, University of Mary Hardin Baylor, and is waiting to hear back from Saint Mary’s in San Antonio. Victoria plans to major in Political Science and study Law. It is also rumored that she plays the violin.

Please join me in congratulating Victoria on being one of our January Student’s of the Month!

From Mrs. Brandenburg, Theatre Arts Teacher:

Eileen Crist is an outstanding example of an exemplary student who demonstrates Spirit, Pride and Honor everyday. Eileen has been in BETC for 4 years. She has performed in 3 musicals, 1 fall show, and 4 One Act Plays. You may remember her as Patrick from The Spongebob Musical, Miss Trunchbull from Matilda, Jr., Captain Hook from Peter Pan, and a Member of the District, Bi-District and Regional qualifying One Act Play, Treasure Island. She was also an MC for Spring Show last year and is the captain of BETC this year. She is currently playing the role of Gretta Good in the 2024 One Act Play, Still Life With Iris.

While Eileen is phenomenal in BETC, she is even more outstanding in the classroom, in her leadership skills, and other extracurricular activities. Eileen strives for academic excellence taking advanced and dual credit courses. She has been the drum major for the Esprit de Corps for the past two years, leading them to the state competition both times. She was also in choir for two years. Eileen is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spirit, Pride, Honor leadership team. Eileen is an avid baker and makes some very impressive cakes and cupcakes. In fact, she made a beautiful cake for the Band Christmas cake auction.

Eileen pursues all endeavors with passion and enthusiasm. This young lady truly puts her heart into all she is involved in and motivates others by her hard work and dedication. The whole theatre department and much of the school responds to the motivation she continually shows and the leadership she displays. In the words of Reba McIntire, “To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.” This young lady’s performances, leadership, dreams, and academic excellence have proven she has all three and will be quite the success.

Eileen plans to attend CTC for their baking and pastry program, where once completed she will go to a university to continue her culinary education. She has dreams of owning her own bakery one day and I know I would love to visit it. I am proud to present Eileen Crist as the theatre student of the month.
