Bulldog Soccer Over the Break

From Coach Boorman:
The Bulldogs were busy over the winter break playing in the annual alumni game and competing at a tournament in Gatesville.

The Alumni Game was a huge success.  We played in the SAC due to the lightning outside, but had a great time.  The current players got a chance to share stories of the program and have fellowship with those that made contributions to the program over the years.  All had a good time and went out to eat afterwards.

The Varsity Dawgs played Lampasas on Thursday 1/4.  Genesis Ceron received a through ball from co-captain Hector Arredondo and beat his man to the goal scoring the only goal of the match. The game ended 1-0 for the 1st official win of the season.

The boys played Waco Robinson on 1/5 and found themselves down 1-0 in the first half of the game, but co-captain Miguel Valdez managed to beat his man and his shot ricocheted off the keepers hands and Genesis Ceron found the back of the net for his second goal in as many days. The second half started off with a bang as the Dawgs improved their focus and Genesis scored his 3rd goal of the tournament again assisted by Miguel Valdez. Derik Colis slotted the 3rd goal of the day in by header from Eric Huerta's corner kick.  The Dawgs won 3-1 for their second win of the season.

The Bulldogs faced Lorena and Gatesville on Saturday.  The boys were dragging a little, and a number of injuries popped up due to the continued play over multiple days.  Lorena was a tough physical team and won the game 3-0.  With only an hour's rest in between games the boys did their best, but conceded to Gatesville 3-0 as well.

Offensive Player of the Tournament - Genesis Ceron with 3 goals
Defensive Player of the Tournament - Rigo Valdez who sacrificed his body and a number of occasions to save goals.
Game Changer of the Tournament - Hector Arredondo played both striker and midfield, and opened up the field and put the other team on defense all tournament.

The boys travel to Copperas Cove tonight, and we host Fredericksburg on Friday.
