From Coach Boorman:
Bulldog Nation:
Bulldog Soccer kicked off the season traveling to Canyon Lake for the first scrimmage of the year.
JV started off the night. The boys came out fighting captained by Julius Nava and Isaac Saldivar. Canyon Lake was very fast and physical, but with big saves by Cristopher Lopez, and herculean efforts by Julius, we were able to keep the ball out of the net. Right before the half the Dawgs conceded a free kick just outside the box that was converted by the Hawks. During the goal Cris Lopez's glasses were broken leading him to come out of the game. The second half everyone got to play and learned a lot, but the score went the way of the Hawks 4-0.
Our varsity came out battling. Captains Hector Arredondo and Miguel Valdez controlled the midfield. The game was a real stalemate. Victor Aviles and Hector Arredondo stretched their defense with speed, and we controlled the majority of possession. Just before half-time Miguel Valdez shot the ball from the top of the box and the goalkeeper let the ball get behind him and had to save it off the line which looked to be the first goal of the match but was disallowed. Matthew Aguayo made quite a few key saves to block all attacks by the Hawks very fast and physical front line. Derik Colis played like a grown man and shut down any counter attacks.
With 1 minute left in the game Victor Aviles took on his defender near midfield and took the game in his hands sprinting the length of the field and cutting back at the perfect time and puring a shot into the side net for the goal and the victory. He was quickly surrounded by the entire team in celebration. This was a great way to start off the year to a team we played twice last year and could not defeat.
Players of the Match:
Offense MVP - Marco Campos
Defense MVP - Derik Colis
Game Changer - Victor Aviles
The Dawgs travel to Wimberley on Tuesday and then are home this Friday to play our rival, the Lampasas Badgers. The Lady Dawgs will be playing that night as well, and we are hosting a toy and book drive to support children in need this holiday season.
Thanks for your support!
