BHS Cross Country competed at the STATE meet 11/4/23!

From Coach Jones:
Today the Lady Dawg CC team returned to the STATE meet at Old Settlers Park for the first time since 2014, they were joined by Victor Aviles & Isaias Zarate.

The goal for this season was to get a team to STATE and these young ladies worked persistently to make that happen. The members of this team are Asah Roy, Abby Bennight, Amelia Griffin, Brooke Bowman, Kaycie Banton, Adriana Briggs, Marissa Aviles, Halle Maxwell, Josie McDavid, and Manager Haylie Bartlett. They went into today's meet being unranked in the 4A division and ended the day with an overall team place of 16th. Although this wasn't quite where we wanted to end the season, we are incredibly proud of the work they put in to be ranked 16th out of 206 cross-country teams in the 4A division. This group is determined to return next year and they have already started setting goals for the 2024 season. A huge thank you to our two seniors Kaycie Banton & Amelia Griffin for their leadership throughout the years and all that they have done for our program!

Victor Aviles returned to the STATE meet for the second year in a row and was just one place shy of being in the top ten, placing 11th overall out of 150 runners. This is such a huge improvement from last year's state meet where he placed 22nd. This young man continues to put in the work and has such a bright future. We can't wait to see what he does in his senior season!

Isaias Zarate made his STATE debut today and earned 55th place out of 150 runners. This young man has a heart the size of Texas and was a leader all season for his teammates. We know he is going to stop at nothing to earn his spot at the top. He will return in his senior season stronger and faster than ever!

As coaches, we are so incredibly proud of these athletes and their relentless efforts to make the Burnet Cross Country program one of the best in the state. We would like to thank the booster club, Burnet Subway, our parents, and all of the community members who have supported these athletes throughout this incredible season.
