Lady Dawgs at the Regional Track Meet

From Coach Shipley:

This past weekend, three of our Lady Dawgs competed at Bullard High School in the Region 3/AAAA track and field meet. With the new UIL realignment, we faced some different competition at the Area and Regional levels. Our girls made us incredibly proud, representing our team, school and community with spirit, pride and honor! All three of these young ladies experienced Regionals for the very first time so that was pretty neat!

Grace Cullison, freshman, competed in triple jump and her best jump was at 32 feet. She has improved every week and is determined to get better in all she does. Grace works so hard in practice and on her own. Coach Wood and Coach Couch have been great with her and helped with her confidence and improvement. She already has her eyes and goals set on next year! She will be back as a runner and jumper. This young lady has a very bright future!

Kyleigh Mott, junior, has balanced softball and track schedules for three years. She and Coach Doug Messer find ways to get work in every week so that she can do both. Every year, Kyleigh has jumped to the next level. Her freshman year, she barely missed going to the Area meet. As a sophomore, she was just shy of getting a Regional ticket. This year, she earned her ticket to Regionals. She didn't have her best throws and was disappointed, but she battled. Her best throw on Friday was 94'10". Her PR is at 101'7"! Each year, she commits to getting to the next level and she's done it! We know her senior year will be the best yet! Kyleigh played in the softball playoff game against Gatesville on Thursday, got to Bullard to throw discus and went right back to softball for game two! She is a dedicated and amazing person!

Asah Roy, freshman, competed in the 3200m and 1600m. Asah ran the 3200m Friday morning and CRUSHED the school record by 14 seconds. The 2014 record was held by Abigail Bullock for 9 years! Asah ran her heart out, beat her PR by 15 seconds, and earned a 3rd place regional medal! She was bummed to find out that her time didn't earn the wild card to state, but it sure fueled her for the 1600! She ran the 1600m on Saturday evening and broke the school record AGAIN in that! The 1600m record was from 1985 by Julie Frank (5:25.90) and Asah had beaten that earlier in the season, but this time by 8 seconds with a time of 5:16.99! She ran a very smart race and pulled off an amazing kick at the end! Coach Kristi Jones and Asah have a strict workout schedule and get to the track at 6:00 am almost every day. Coach Jones has done BIG things with our distance crew and it's paying off! More and more kids are getting better in that category because they love working for Coach Jones!

Five Burnet track and field athletes are going to STATE (pictured together)!! Congratulations to our teammates, Coach Speer and Coach Overstreet! Our boys and boys coaches have been our teammates all year and we've become such a family!

The State Track Meet for 4A will be on Thursday, May 11th at Mike Myers Stadium. We hope to see many Burnet fans there to cheer on our state qualifiers.
