Burnet Esports - Week 6 Recap

We are approaching the final weeks of our regular season.  Some of our teams are starting to show great strength as they set themselves up for a spot in the playoffs with an eye on competing at the state championship.

Our Rocket League team was set to face the Greenwood High School team, Greenwood HS Rocket League on March 22nd.  However, they didn’t have any players available to compete and forfeited the match in our favor.  This brings our record to 2-3 for the season.  They next face an opponent on March 29th, and will face the I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA team, Panther – RocketLeague (4-0 record) at 4:45 pm.

On Friday, most of our players faced their opponents on the virtual field of play in some great game play resulting in wins for some of our players.  We also benefited from a couple of forfeits in our favor.  All rankings mentioned are unofficial until the end of the season.  In Super Smash Bros Ultimate, there are 171 teams competing this season in our league, so to be ranked in the top 50 is very impressive.  To make it to the playoffs in Super Smash Bros Ultimate Solos, a team will need to be ranked in the top 32 when the rankings are finalized after the end of the regular season.  All teams currently ranked in the top 45 are either solidly in the top 32 or tied with teams that are listed in the top 32, and thus are currently in contention to compete in the playoffs.

Isaac Saldivar (Burnet HS Smash Solo – Jr. Varsity #2) faced off against the tough, highly ranked Hillsboro High School team, Hillsboro Smash: Phoneix (4-1 record).  Burnet was 0-2 facing this team this season.  Unfortunately, despite trading wins in the first two rounds, their strength as a player proved to be enough to win the third round, thus winning the match.  As a result, Isaac suffered his first loss of the season, bringing his record to 4-1 and ranked in the top 45.  He next faces the Vidor High School team, Phillip K. VHS Smash (3-3 record).

Xzavier Benjamin (Burnet HS Smash Solo – Varsity #1) faced off against the Benbrook Middle-High School team, Benbrook Smash Brothers 3 (3-2 record).  After trading wins in the first two round, he managed to pull off the win in the third round and win the match, 2-1.  He improved his record to 5-0 for the season, and is currently ranked in the top 20. His next opponent is the West Oso High School team, West Oso High School William Spring 2023 (1-4 record).

John Elias (Burnet HS Smash Solo – Varsity #3) faced off against a tough I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA team, Panther – Ultimate_Mar (4-0 record).  Unfortunately, they proved to be tough competition and he lost both rounds.  With the loss, he drops to a 2-3 record.  He next faces the Benbrook Middle-High School team, Benbrook Smash Brothers 2 (4-2 record).

Brendon Gideon (Burnet HS Smash Solo – Varsity #4) faced off against a highly ranked Vidor High School team, Reese M. VHS Smash (4-1 record).  Brendon came out strong and beat his opponent in two straight rounds, winning the match 2-0.  His record improved to 3-2 for the season.  His next opponent is the I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA team, Panther – UltimateNoah (1-4 record).

Christopher Robertson (Burnet HS Smash Solo – JV #1) was set to face the I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA team, Panther – UltimateNoah (1-3 record).  Due to the player being a no show, they forfeited in his favor, which improves his record to 2-3.  He next faces the Vidor High School team, Eli Z. VHS Smash (1-5 record).

Cody Murders (Burnet HS Smash Solo – Varsity #5) was scheduled to face the Dr. Kirk Lewis Career and Technical HS team, Cosmic Knights B (1-3 record).  The player was also a no show, and they forfeited in Cody’s favor, improving his record to 4-1.  He is currently ranked in the top 45.  He next faces the Stafford MSD team, SHS Micobra05 SBBU (3-2 record).

Murray Urofsky (Burnet HS Smash Solo – Varsity #6) was due to face the West Oso High School team, West Oso High School Jayden H. Spring 2023 (0-2 record).  They were a no show, and forfeited in our favor.  With the forfeit, Murray improves to a 4-1 record and is currently ranked in the top 45. His next opponent is the Stafford MSD team, SHS Abala Solo (3-2 record).

Our final two players, Alejandra Garcia (Burnet HS Smash Solo – JV #3) and Ray Reid (Burnet HS Smash Solo – Varsity #2) were scheduled for a face-to-face match-up against each other.  They competed their match on Monday, March 27th during Esports advisory.  In a lopsided win for Ray, he beat Alejandra 2-0.  Ray improved his record to 5-0 and is currently ranked in the top 20, while Alejandra’s record drops to 0-5.  Ray next faces the Dr. Kirk Lewis Career and Technical HS team, Cosmic Knights C (2-3 record) while Alejandra faces the Dr. Kirk Lewis Career and Technical HS team, Cosmic Knights B (1-4 record).

We got our recording equipment set up for the game play on Friday and recorded three of the matches we competed in on Friday:

All Super Smash Bros Ultimate teams will face their next opponents on screen on Friday, March 31 at 4:45 PM.
