Burnet Tennis Update

From Coach Redman:

Burnet tennis played early this week, with the JV traveling to Gatesville on Valentine's Day and varsity making the short trip to Llano on Wednesday.

After waiting out some rain and for courts to dry, our athletes played well in windy conditions in Gatesville. All of our players were able to win a match during the tournament. Only Kinzy Davidson, however, was able to advance to a championship match. She took care of business early in the tournament and thankfully saved enough energy for a marathon of a final. Despite going down 0-4 in the 8 game set, Kinzy battled back to push the match to a tiebreaker! In the end, she barely missed out on the gold medal, falling 12-10 in the tiebreaker.

On Wednesday, we played in our first tournament that didn't require sweatpants and shivering. Just like Tuesday, all athletes were able to earn a victory. Alex Davis narrowly missed the consolation finals. Cam Stires and Nick Dietrich lost in a heartbreaking quarterfinal match against the eventual tournament champions. They got down 1-4 to start the match, only to come back and lead 8-7. Unfortunately, the team from Mason was able to push it to a tiebreaker and hold on for the victory. Finally, Tatum Salinas and Aly Van Zandt continued their year-long winning streak, cruising through the competition to another gold medal finish.

Next week, we travel to Taylor to take part in the Taylor-Hutto invitational on Thursday and Friday.
