Burnet High School is happy to announce its newest sports team, Burnet Esports!

We have 14 student-athletes competing in two esports titles in our inaugural season this spring: Rocket League and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Our Rocket League team, comprised of six members (three players and three substitutes), will be competing in the varsity division. Meanwhile, our nine players competing in Super Smash Bros Ultimate will be competing in solo matches throughout the season, three as junior varsity players and the other six as varsity players.

Coaches David Trower and Deanna Gonzales are excited to offer this opportunity to BHS students to compete and engage in this newest sport that otherwise might not be engaged in other extracurricular activities. Esports is a growing sport with numerous collegiate and professional competitions available as well as college scholarships for high school competitors to attend college and compete on a collegiate esports team.

All regular season and playoff games will compete at Burnet High School in the Burnet Esports Arena in C104 (also known as the computer science classroom). Rocket League competitions will occur on Wednesday afternoons while Super Smash Bros Ultimate competitions will occur on Friday afternoons. All competitions begin at 4:45 pm and our opponents are from all over Texas.

While we won’t be live-streaming games in our inaugural season, we will be putting out highlight videos throughout the season so you can see our student-athletes in action as they face off with opponents on their respective digital fields of play.

Today kicks off our regular season for Rocket League and Friday starts our regular season for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. We’ve been through a rocky pre-season, both due to the winter storm and a majority of opponents failing to show up for competition. In terms of the rankings, pre-season games are treated like scrimmages and have no impact on the rankings during the season or for the playoffs.

Let’s cheer our inaugural BHS Esports team on as they compete throughout the spring. Go Bulldogs!
