Directions:

Activity Overview:
You will write a one-page essay explaining the history of the business management career field.
 
Directions:
1. Determine common business management careers within various time periods.
 
2. Explain what each type of career entails.
 
3. Determine if each career discussed still exists today.
 
4. Discuss the impact each career has had on the history of business management.
 
5. Write a one-page summary of your research.
 
6. Once completed, turn in your activity according to your instructor’s directions.

Activity Overview:
You will play a game like Pictionary® concerning careers within the Business Management & Administration Career Cluster.
 
Directions:
1. Using the boxes below, create playing cards. Remember to choose careers which are in the Business Management & Administration Career Cluster. Once you have filled out the cards, cut them out to be used in the game.
 
2. Your instructor will divide the class into two groups.
 
3. To begin, each team selects an illustrator. The illustrator on each team will draw clues for their team to help them guess the career listed on the card. The illustrator on the non-guessing team should keep the time. Each team should only get two minutes to guess each clue.
 
4. The non-guessing team, in addition to keeping the time, should make sure the illustrator does not speak or use body language to indicate the career. If an illustrator uses verbal or physical communication, a member of the non-guessing team should yell “buzz” or clap twice. If this occurs, the current guess card goes into a discard pile, resulting in a point for the non-guessing team. Each correctly guessed career results in a point for the guessing team.
 
5. Once the clue has been solved or time runs out, the teams’ roles are reversed. Once each player has taken a turn as illustrator, the game ends.
 
General Rules
Illustrators may not use any verbal or physical communication, including words, noises, facial expressions and gestures.
Illustrators may not use any letters or numbers in their drawings.
Illustrators may pass on any card at any time, but the card is then placed in the discard pile.

Activity Overview:
You will identify and analyze your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) in the context of your academic and personal goals.
 
Directions:
1.   Using the SWOT Analysis Student Handout, review the importance and examples of SWOT in career development.
 
2.   On a separate sheet of paper, write down one SMART career goal you would like to analyze.
·        This could be a dream job, an industry you want to work in, or a skill you want to develop
·        Be as specific as possible; for example, "I want to become a pediatric nurse" or "I want to be a software developer in a gaming company"
 
3.   Using the table below, reflect and write down three points in each section related to your selected SMART goal.
 
4.   Find a partner and share your SWOT analysis. Discuss your SWOT analyses and offer feedback, if necessary.
 
5.   Write a brief plan identifying specific steps you can take to use strengths, address weaknesses, capitalize on opportunities and avoid threats.
 
6.   Write a summary discussing why setting specific goals and identifying SWOT is important for successful career planning. On your separate piece of paper, answer the following questions:
·        How can your strengths influence your career choices
·        Why is setting clear career goals essential for a successful future
·        What opportunities can you maximize as a high school student
