Chef Mike Erickson is the culinary arts instructor here at BHS. BHS use the National Restaurant Association ProStart program which is a Nation-wide Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts curriculum develop for High School students.
Mike has been with BHS for four years and been in education 18 years teaching at Austin Community College, Le Cordon Bleu, and Connally High School before moving to Burnet.
Mike Erickson is an Austin native and Travis High/AISD School graduate. He is a culinary arts graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park,New York and received his Bachelors degree in Food Entrepreneurship from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, Sum Cum Laude.
Upon returning to Austin after an eight year culinary quest in New England he went to work for The Driskill Hotel. He has worked for many Austin notables including The Driskill Grill, Star Canyon, Demi Epicurious, Whole Foods, Shady Grove and Tres Amigos. He is a past Chef Instructor at Austin Community College and the Texas Culinary Academy a Le Cordon Bleu School where he taught Restaurant 401 the student run restaurant practical class. He has also taught Garde Manager, Culinary Arts, Restaurant Management and Wine.
His school passions are inspiring kids, The BHS Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the State of Texas High School BBQ Cook Off, Bulldog Bistro our school student run restaurant and the new HAUTE DAWG our student run Gourmet Hot Dog Cart.
He loves the Lord and his family that includes a new Burnet High School Bulldog daughter who is a Highlandette and loves FFA, She also rides American Saddlebred horses competitively. My wife (The Rock of our Family) is an Executive Professional in Austin with the Tan International Group and also works for Keller Williams Realty part-time. Outside of school he loves cooking, horses, Chuck Wagon Competitions, and being a husband and dad.
