Jason Jones is currently in his 19th year of teaching and 5th year as Director of Bands at Burnet High school. Under his direction, the Burnet High School Band had earned to coveted UIL Sweepstakes Award each year, advanced to UIL State Marching Contest in 2014, was 1st Alternate to the UIL State Marching Contest in 2016, and placed in the State Finals of the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series Competition in 2017.
Prior to teaching in Burnet, Mr. Jones taught three years at Early High School, six years at Panhandle High School, and five years at Pampa High School.
Mr. Jones was the Director of Bands at Early High School from 2011-2014. During his time there, the band earned the coveted UIL Sweepstakes award each year. The sweepstakes award in 2011-2012 was the first time in six years and only the third award in the past 20 years. The three year streak from 2011-2014 was the first three year consecutive streak in the history of the school. Additionally, the marching band placed 5th at the UIL Area D Marching Contest and was the 1st alternate to the UIL State Contest.
Mr. Jones was the Director of Band at Panhandle High School from 2004-2010. Under his direction, the “Pride of Panhandle” Band earned the coveted Sweepstakes award all six years. In 2007, the band qualified for the UIL State Marching Contest for the first time in school history, advancing to the finals and placing 7th overall. In 2005 and 2007, the band was named the Overall Outstanding Small School Band at the Greater Southwest Music Festival. The band also advanced twice to the state level in the TMEA Honor Band Competition, finishing 12th in 2005 and 11th in 2007. The band advanced to the state level in the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series Competition in 2005.
Prior to working in Panhandle, Mr. Jones worked as the Assistant Director of Bands at Pampa High School from 1999-2004. During this time, he was in charge of the High School Concert Band as well as the Basketball Band and the award winning Pampa High School Jazz Band. The Jazz Band won the Overall Outstanding Jazz Band Award at the Greater Southwest Music Festival in 2002 and won the Best in Class Award at the Alamo Music Festival in San Antonio in 2003. He helped lead the Concert Band to the coveted Sweepstakes Award in 2002 and 2003, its first since 1994. He also led the Concert Band to four consecutive 1st Division ratings in sight-reading competition.
Mr. Jones is originally from Pampa and graduated from Pampa High School in 1995. He attended Angelo State University for two years before transferring to Howard Payne University in 1997. He graduated from HPU with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999. Mr. Jones and his wife Amber, who is currently serving as the Music Teacher at Shady Grove Elementary School, have three children: Emileigh (14), Adyson (12), and Ian (10).
