ApplyTexas and CommonApp Opened July 1!!

The ApplyTexas Application is the application used by the majority of colleges and universities in Texas. ApplyTexas could be viewed as a universal application that makes the application process much easier.

On ApplyTexas you can accomplish a multitude of tasks including:

  • Apply for admission to any Texas public university, as well as to participating community and private colleges.
  • Apply for undergraduate, international and graduate admission.
  • Copy a submitted application to another institution.
  • Submit your application essays online.
  • Apply for scholarships from participating universities.
  • Apply for housing with participating universities.
  • Search for and view both general and university-specific information.
Questions about a specific Texas college or school's admissions process? Please contact the individual college or school's admissions office.
Common Application: http://www.commonapp.org/
The Common Application is a not-for-profit membership organization that, since its founding over 35 years ago, has been committed to providing reliable services that promote equity, access, and integrity in the college application process. We serve students, member institutions, and secondary schools by providing applications that students and school officials may submit to any of our nearly 500 members. Membership is open to colleges and universities that promote access by evaluating students using a holistic selection process.
Once completed online or in print, copies of the Application for Undergraduate Admission can be sent to any number of participating colleges. The same is true of the School Report, Optional Report, Midyear Report, Final Report and Teacher Evaluation forms. This allows you to spend less time on the busywork of applying for admission, and more time on what's really important: college research, visits, essay writing, and senior year coursework.

Absolutely! Millions of Common Applications are printed and accepted by our members each year.  Additionally, last year almost 2.5 million applications were submitted via the Common App Online.

YES! Our college and university members have worked together over the past 35 years to develop the application. All members fully support its use, and all give equal consideration to the Common Application and the college's own form. Many of our members use the Common Application as their only undergraduate admission application.

There is a search engine that provides information on schools who are members of the Common Application.

Application and Scholarship Essays:

College Recruiters advise...

  • write about an experience that makes the student stand out
  • write about what you know, an experience that you've lived and was meaningful to you
  • ask those close to you what makes you stand out to get ideas
  • don't use fancy or awkward word choice; write formally but with genuine word choice and sentence structure
  • answer the question, how will I enhance this university?
  • include something about yourself that's not captured elsewhere in the application or on your transcript (mission trip, caring for a family member, helping a neighbor)
